I am writing this letter as an objection to the fine that you have imposed to the Croatian Football Federation due to the display of the Macedonian national flag during the football game between Croatia and Greece. I am perplexed with the reasons behind this fine and believe that backroom influence contributed toward this fine. As a football fan who has supported FIFA and UEFA funds through attendance at many football matches I feel that I deserve the right to express my sickening disappointment with this punishment to the Croatian Football Federation.
Your decision is not only wrong, but it is an unequivocal prohibition of free speech and the right of self determination. What power is granted to the UEFA federation to prohibit one person to display its nationality, identify and affiliation? The affiliation to one club or national team is the cornerstone that has propelled football to become life’s medium of passion, happiness and agony. The passion of supporting your own nation is the highest virtue that one football fan can exhibit while watching its football idols compete against their opponents. Have you considered that maybe the person that displayed the flag of the Republic of Macedonia was a person with dual Croatian/Macedonia citizenship, or a person in mixed nationality marriage, or a Croatian born in Macedonia. Whatever those reasons were, the act of displaying the flag of the Republic of Macedonia is not an illegal act, just as it is not the the display of any other national flag across the myriad of football games played around the world.
The UEFA federation has become a peon of backroom political influences, especially Greek ones, and this behavior has to stop! For one, your site continues to refer to the Republic of Macedonia as FYROM, and offensive acronym invented by bigot Greek nationalist who prejudice against the Macedonian nation. The Republic of Macedonia has its name, has its flag and has its nationality clearly defined by its citizens. This is the 21st century, and era when slavery has long been eradicated, and the right to self-determination has been enshrined by the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights. UEFA needs to wake up, shake off its dark chauvinistic methods and allow people to freely display their passion, support and love for the game, their club and their national teams.
I am a Macedonian and I will continue to support my national team or any Macedonian Club by proudly waving the bright red flag of the Republic of Macedonia no matter how many times you fine me or any other person/federation. My passion is stronger than your regime.
