Arsenal to settle for cut-price £1.5m Marouane Chamakh

Marouane Chamakh's tortuous transfer from Bordeaux is now likely to be completed in January with
Arsenal still the most likely club to sign him, despite interest from Juventus.
The 25-year-old Morocco striker is out of contract next June and able to talk to other clubs in January.
Arsene Wenger, having failed to agree a fee with Bordeaux in August, is now likely to get his man in the winter transfer window, as Chamakh himself is desperate to move to the north London club.
Desperate: Marouane Chamakh wants to move to the Emirates Stadium
However, a likely fee of £1.5million is unlikely to appease Arsenal fans, who want to see the £40m raised by the sales of Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Adebayor in the summer re-invested in a more significant manner.
Arsenal did try to sign Brazilian holding midfielder Felipe Melo, who instead joined Juventus for £17m from Fiorentina, so it seems Wenger will spend big when the right player becomes available.
Mannone - 6. Had very little to do, but looked shakey on set-pieces, and whenever the ball came near him. Although he did make one really good save.
Sagna - 6. Quiet game, but made a couple of good tackles and interceptions. Got forward a bit more in the second half without any joy.
Gallas - 7. Lost a few headers in the first half, but also made some very intelligent tackles. Very impressive goign forward.
Vermaelen - 9. Defended almost flawlessly, I celebrated his second goal like a madman! Best defender in the League?
Clichy - 8. Flawless, for the first time in about 2 years! Looked super-concrentrated, and was
intelligent going forward!!!
Song - 5. Thoguht he was diabolical, made lots of poor decisions, got beat one-on-one far too many times, and didn't really contribute much going forard. His form has severely tailed off, inexplicable really, because he was playing to a very high level at the start of the seaon. Perhaps the lack of competition has made him too comfortable?
Fabregas - 6. One or two great moments apart, I thought he was poor in every aspect of his game, and along with his midfield mates was the main reason we looked brittle in the first half. Hope he isn't injured too badly.
Diaby - 6. Brainless defensively in the first half, not lazy, just stupid. Some good moments going forward, but overall pretty ineffective.
Eboue - 7. Some good running, but his decision-making is ridiculous.
Eduardo - 7. Came to life in the second half once we got a foothold in the game. Such an intelligent footballer, and nearly scored a fantastic goal.
Van Persie - 4. I thought he was decent in the first half, except his woeful finishing, but in the second half his head dropped and the little bit of confidence he had left went completely. He looked like he didn't want to be out there, he was playing that badly. Bendtner is now pushing him hard for his spot.
Subs
Ramsey - 5. Gave the balla way quite a lot, and wasted some decent chances to create.
Rosicky - 7. Such a fantastic player. So quick and agile, and his touch is out of this world.
Bendtner - 7. Did really well in his limited time, got free on the right so many times I lost count.
