Top ten worst moments of this season

A ‘season defining moment’ is a term used in a positive sense as a turning point of the campaign. In the case of Arsenal we could just sum up some abysmal, irksome moments that gave us a sixth barren season in a row.
Here are the top ten worst moments of the season which shattered us completely :
10. Nov – 3 , Shaktar Donetsk 2 – 1 Arsenal – UEFA Champions League
After kicking start the European campaign in a blistering fashion, pocketing maximum points out of first three fixtures, Arsenal were the favorites to win the group. However, a ray of madness struck us as Arsenal lost 2-1 to the Ukrainian outfit, a defeat that couldn’t be accepted by anyone.
9. Nov – 23 , Braga 2 - 0 Arsenal – UEFA Champions League
The defeat to Shaktar should have been a wakeup call for Arsenal. Did they wake up? It is a big shame that Wenger’s Gunners returned home with another wounding defeat at Braga, a defeat which has simply no excuse. It totally changed the course of the Champions league. A hurting successive defeat, and Wenger should have got the right result from the lesson he learnt at Ukraine.
8. Sep – 25 , Arsenal 2 - 3 West Bromwich Albion - Barclays Premier League
Could there have been a much worse performance against a promoted team? Manuel Almunia showed the world that he is unfit to be a goal keeper in any top flight football, let alone England. Arsenal forgot that they were playing at their home ground that evening. Be it home or away, a title aspiring team should have thrashed such minnows convincingly instead of biting mud at our very home. A sick performance gave us the first defeat of the league, shaking our confidence completely after a blistering kickoff .
7. March – 8 , Barcelona 3 – 1 Arsenal – UEFA Champions League ( Knock-out Phase)
We did just one thing the whole night-defending and yet we ended up with the wrong result. With a brilliant first leg 2-1 comeback win at the Emirates, Arsenal should have closed in on the Catalans in Camp Nou to seal the tie. The lack of poise and steel were clearly visible as the Gunners were over ambitious that night. We defended brilliantly throughout, but it was the lack of self belief that ‘ we are going to win’ at such a big stage, that knocked us out of the elite competition. I should mention that the van Persie’s controversial sending off completely changed the momentum of the game, but it is not worth the talking as he was sent off when we were leading the tie. Arsenal paid the dividend for giving up the top position in a cake-walk group earlier.
6. March - 12 , Manchester United 2 - 0 Arsenal – F.A Cup (Quarter Final)
Frankly speaking, we don’t know how to beat them. I feel so low when mentioning this as most of us have forgotten when we last won against them. The Boss must be more commanding and brimming with winning mentality during such crunch cup ties. There is nothing worse than losing to a rival team in a knock out cup match.
5. Nov – 20 , Arsenal 2 - 3 Tottenham Hotspur - Barclays Premier League
There is no point in proclaiming ourselves to be ‘title contenders’ when our defense does not have the potential to hold on to a two goal cushion after the half way mark. It is a big shame that we had to lose such a match despite some rampant performance up in the front. A defeat that showcases our big hole in the defense department should have woken up Wenger and caused him to make amends in the winter transfer window.
4. April – 17 , Arsenal 1 - 1 Liverpool - Barclays Premier League
What could you do with a team that can’t hold on for a minute? We can just end up criticizing, that we have been doing for years though for a cause. Manchester United’s draw at St James Park meant that Arsenal’s title hopes could liven up with a victory against Liverpool closing the gap to four once again. Forget about the decision of the controversial penalty, instead think about the two good chances we had to clear the ball in the dying moments that we failed to do. Will we ever learn to defend?
3. April – 20 , Tottenham Hotspurs 3 - 3 Arsenal – Barclays Premier League
I feel sorry for Theo Walcott, Samir Nasri and Robin van Persie after witnessing this match. It is surprising that a team can defend like this and turn a win into an awful draw. I don’t understand what we learnt from the defeat in the previous North London Derby. We wouldn’t see any other team lose a match with such an attacking force up front. The title slipped from our hands at the end of this match.
2. Feb - 5 , Newcastle United 4 - 4 Arsenal – Barclays Premier League
Bring any team from any division from any league that night and ask them to play against any team at 4-0 up with 20 minutes left on the clock. There would be just one result-victory. Arsenal’s defense proved to be not worthy of playing even Championship football. Shame on Wenger as it has taken a season for him to realize that this defense is as worse as that of a bunch of school kids. Vermaelen’s presence wouldn’t have made much difference when you we have a defender like Koscielny pairing him. A big question arises,does Wenger give defending training really to the team?Sorry for all the fans worldwide who witnessed this match.
1. Feb – 27 , Arsenal 1 - 2 Birmingham City - Carling Cup ( Final )
This is a game which cannot be lost even when played in a play station for a hundred times. We had tasted victory against them in both the home and the away league encounters. This game totally changed the course of the season. Following such a defeat, which the players couldn’t take to their hearts, its aftermath was reflected in the knock out from the champions league, the FA cup within a fortnight. It is a big question mark and shame on the face of our manager that a title aspiring top four team, can’t win a side that is fighting for its survival in the top flight football in a 90 minutes final. I have no words to express after watching all this.
We can come to the conclusion that, all the above ten moments have one coincidence, and that is lack of defense. A gaping hole is found in our defense which has never been taken care of since the departure of players like Tony Adams, Sol Campbell, Martin Keowne.
We Arsenal fans can consider ourselves to be ‘Nostradamus’ as we correctly predict the Arsenal future every season.
