Zeine said leaders of Niger’s new government, known as the National Council for Safeguarding the Homeland, or by its French initials CNSP, were bewildered that the United States had frozen military support while insisting on keeping the troops in the country without justifying their continued presence. The American response in the wake of Niger’s coup contrasted sharply with that of other nations, including Russia, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, he said, which have welcomed the new Nigerien leaders with “open arms.”

He said the Nigerien leaders took particular umbrage at remarks by Molly Phee, the State Department’s top official for African affairs, who he said had urged the government during a March visit to Niamey to refrain from engaging with Iran and Russia in ways objectionable to Washington if Niger wanted to continue its security relationship with the United States. He also said Phee had further threatened sanctions if Niger pursued a deal to sell uranium to Iran.

“When she finished, I said, ‘Madame, I am going to summarize in two points what you have said,’” recounted Zeine, who has led negotiations with the United States. “First, you have come here to threaten us in our country. That is unacceptable. And you have come here to tell us with whom we can have relationships, which is also unacceptable. And you have done it all with a condescending tone and a lack of respect.”

JUST IN: Protesters with Russian flags have appeared in the capital of Kenya.

There are reports that the pro-USA President of the country has just been evacuated from his residence using NATO helicopters.

US President Joe Biden has declared Kenya a major American ally outside NATO .

“I hereby declare Kenya to be a principal non-NATO ally of the United States for purposes of this (Foreign Assistance) Act and the Arms Export Control Act,” the presidential memorandum states.

Under the Biden administration, three countries – Kenya, Colombia and Qatar – have already received this status. In total, about 20 countries in the world currently have this status.

Unrest in Kenya, Protesters stormed the parliament building, where a vote on the draft budget, including tax increases, had just taken place.

During the protests, at least 8 people were killed and more than 200 were injured.

Sadly all of this is part of a familiar and historic pattern in Africa. The so-called international community and powerful global/Western institutions like the International Monetary Fund (IMF) regularly induce governments to take on huge debts, and then begin to impose from abroad drastic societal reform measures on the population.

And in the process of billions being exchanged, corrupt local government figures line their own pockets while imposing stringent and very sudden measures on the lower class and impoverished citizens.
