First of all, I'm really sorry there was no notification about this change before the Premium accounts went live.
The Premium features. What's new?
- Add unlimited shows
- Get over 40 achievements when interacting with the site
- Custom lists on the "My Shows" page
- No ads

Limit
All non-Premium accounts now have a limit of 20 shows. To clarify; You can archive shows that you've finished watching, to free up slots.
Statistics show that 60-70% of all user accounts are following less than 20 shows.
So if we're only talking about the limit, the potential group of buyers is only about 1/3 of my users. Then taking away accounts that have been inactive for a while, doesn't leave that many users left. Definitely not a big number for any business.
Ads also don't pay as well as you might think, especially when talking about developing costs. It’s not anywhere close to being able to hire someone for example.
Payments
At the moment, we only support PayPal as a payment method. If you have any problems with PayPal or are unable to use them, please contact me at support@episodecalendar.com.
I’m looking into the possibility of adding other payment methods, but that might take a while.
Why
The site has been free since mid 2009, and done completely be me, only on my spare time. 5 years, wow, time flies
These last 12 months, I've been working on the site so much that I almost burned myself out. Coming home from work, and keep working, and always working weekends (especially all summer) is not fun. I had very little time doing other stuff, barely met my friends, and could definitely not travel (my 2nd passion). I felt consumed and pressured by this project. A change had to be made.
Future
I want to make this site the best that I can, and that requires it to live on for many more years. 5 years? 10 years? To ensure that, I had to turn this site into a business, and not relying its progress on my spare time and mental health.
Part of the income will obviously go into further development of the site; new features, better mobile support, and website performance and stability.
Over and out
I'm VERY aware that people will dislike this decision, and be likely to look for a different service. It was a big decision for me to decide upon this type of business plan.
I want to make my users happy, and I'll be adding more features to the Premium account further on to make the cost more worthwhile. Unfortunately that can't mean that I can make everyone happy at the same time.
I'm not saying that the limit is the perfect business plan, but I've made my decision, and I won't change it for the time being.
Hopefully that answers some questions, and you might understand my decision and situation better. Thank you.
