Very disappointing end to an often very entertaining series. Throughout the 6 seasons the best moments came when there was either conflict between groups, or mystery with the promise of revelation or insight. When a writer dangles these promises they'd better resolve them with some degree of satisfaction. This is the ancient art of storytelling and is just as important now as it ever was. To let down the audience in such an embarrassing and shameful way is unforgivable. Those who followed the whole series, putting up with the stupidity while enjoying some of the drama, expected, at the very least, to have an acceptable explanation of the story threads. To reach this conclusion and have it slammed in your face that, yes, the writers were just making up random bollox to keep people watching. No cleverness or art. Just stupidity and directionless lying in an attempt to keep people on the hook. Like teenage liars who make up stuff to get attention, or little kids playacting and altering their characters or storyline as they go, Lost inhabits a world where substance is nothing and shouting 'look at me' is everything. What a load of shite.

For the past several seasons I suspected that the creators of "Lost" were writing themselves into a corner. The series finale proved it. They were unable to supply any logical or informative answers to the many very diverse questions their writing generated during the series. So what they decided to do instead, was fill the final episode with mushy, heart-rending flashbacks that stirred our emotions, but explained nothing. The writers did not supply any answers, simply because they had no answers to supply.

Its not difficult to like Lost, as current TV shows go, its one of the best. The episodes preceding the finale had offered twists and turns, great character building, nice shocks and kept the audience guessing and wondering what was going on whilst providing entertainment at the same time.
However, the writers, who previously had done an excellent job, barring a few ridiculous plot-hole ridden, time travelling sequences in the weak Season 5, let themselves down in a big way. Unfortunately this is now the Lost legacy, all the great work that preceded was undone by an ending that stank of convenience. There were no risks taken, there were no questions answered, other than the alternate reality which only played a small part in the show was created by the "survivors" because they needed to be with each other. Why wrap up something so easily and neatly that based its whole existence on being a tangled web of interlocking story lines???
In movies and TV the single most lasting impression is how well the story is wrapped up, otherwise the preceding story lines can really have no weight as anybody can come up with wacky turns of events that leave questions, only the truly classy exponents of the writing art can explain these while leaving the audience satisfied and not left confused, making the viewer want to go back and see it all unfold again. Other than devout Lost fans I don't see anyone doing this, as there's nothing to see anymore, its all been a massive subterfuge to leave people guessing without giving any answers.
The writers should be ashamed of themselves, they had the chance to create the generations most memorable legacy for television and they blew it spectacularly. I can only hope the 24 writers don't do the same next week.

Let it go...thanks for watching for 6 years, we made millions, now let it go, we don't care. The biggest TV prank of the decate, and most people say they get it and loved it!

I'm already sick of the "romantic vs pragmatist" argument. I loved the earlier deaths of Jin and Sun and the refusal to be separated, the back and forth tug of war between Jack and Sawyer and their respective love interests, even the "sacrificial lamb" aspect of Jack's character. Kate's line "Christian Shepherd? Seriously?" will always remain high on my chart.
However, the writers failed as storytellers, serving up religious platitudes and schmaltzy reunions, all the while invalidating at least 60% of the series with self-conflicting ideas and plot holes that lead to the inexorable conclusion that they really had no idea where the story was going, and preferred to serve up "geek-chic" moments of coolness without any intention of tying things together in any way whatsoever. Just distraction after distraction until we're finally spoon-fed a useless "god loves you, and love conquers all" ending.
That kind of thing is fine after the events of a story have been sewn together. The failure of the writers is that they served up a denouement without ever giving us any kind of ending, just random "cool" scenes. What a waste, destroying any interest I had in re-watching the series.

I wasted years watching this? They really messed up real bad, how can you dedicate so many episodes to science attempting to explain the viewers a little about time traveling, space-time continuum alternative realities and then ending the show with religious irrational beliefs? I can't remember what came first the science introduction or Hugo's and Miles abilities to speak and sense the presence of ghosts? It seems the only thing the writers are good at is writing drama or was this a commercial decision? No doubt the majority of Lost viewers are made out of irrational people who never read science books and probably never finished reading the bible, to many pages... I'm guessing the only time this people care to read something is when they are letting out feces in the toilet, it might be inappropriate to this with the bible I don't know? I'm thinking this was a commercial decision because the alien ship alternative would have a negative effect on DVD and Blu-ray sales, it's sad but no surprise this show ended this way, skeptic people had probably seen it coming.

We(fans) wrote the hole series not the writers. All that mystic background and the sci-fi explanations were our thoughts, the writers only create the characters. There was no scenario or anything. There was just an idea. We kept digging it and they gave us what we wanted.
The origin of the series came from the survivor anyways. Survivor made a big success on its time and ABC came to the lost producers and asked them to make a TV show like this.
So they did!

Evidently, the flash sideways was the "afterlife". it is the most stupid thing i've ever seen. if they're all dead, what was the point of all those story lines for the entire season? oh wait, i forgot, all those writers have to fill the hour somehow ... otherwise how can they get paid? Congratulations to Jeffrey Lieber, J. J. Abrams and Damon Lindelof. You completely screwed over millions of fans, at least you get to sleep in brand new mansions tonight.

a DREADFUL waste of 6 seasons of my watching time. No answers to important questions. pointless alt story and stupid the way it ended (everyone is dead, WHAT!?) Very disappointed. Why all the drama in the alt universe, if they are dead and just want to meet up then why all of the nonsense in between. I know why....the writers didn't have a clue how the show was going to end. The writers should be really ashamed at how such a wonderful creation has ended in such a horrible way. They never had any idea where this was going and it feels like they only discovered how the show was going to end on the day of filming. A terrible, awful, let down. Goodbye Lost, and good riddance.
