Carnival Liberty Fails The U.S. Public Health Inspection

Carnival Liberty is the latest Carnival Cruise Line ship to fail the USPH inspection. The official report was released by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stating that the unannounced inspection was conducted on January 4, 2018, when the cruise ship arrived in Port Canaveral, Florida. After finding numerous violations the ship received failing score of 80 points.

Carnival Liberty is the fourth Carnival Cruise Line ship to fail the USPH inspection in the past 3 months. Last month two Carnival ships fail to pass USPH Inspection, Carnival Vista with a final score of 79, and Carnival Breeze with 77. Onboard Carnival Vista, Vessel Sanitation Program Inspectors found an organized effort by the crew to physically hide trolleys with food equipment, utensils, raw produce, to crew corridors and crew cabins. Carnival Triumph also fail to pass the inspection conducted on November 11, while the vessel was in New Orleans, Louisiana.

• What did VSP Inspectors found on Carnival Liberty?
• Most of the findings were related to broken down or malfunctioning machines and poorly maintained corroded equipment. Here are some of the violations:
• Corroded equipment
• - The atmospheric vacuum breaker at the rack-type warewasher was heavily corroded.
• - The in-use panini grill in Room Service was heavily corroded in the food-contact surfaces.
• - Main Galley CTX ovens located at the Center Hot Galley were heavily corroded in the food zones.
• Out of service machines
• - The rack-type warewash machine in the Starboard Dishwash was out of service.
• - The rack-type warewasher in the Galley-Port Dishwash was out of service.
• - Galley-Potwash machine was out of service.
• Malfunctioning machines
• - Condensate collected on the deckhead and bulkheads on the clean side of the in-use dishwash machine in the Galley-Dishwash.
• - The temperature of the heavily in-use hood-type warewash machine at Galley-Guy's Burger Joint did not reach a minimum required temperature of 150°F in several attempts.

Among other violations, Inspectors recorded high pH values of >10 at the Serenity Portside Whirlpool Spa. Measured bromine levels were >10 and 9.91, after which the whirlpool spa was immediately closed. Center Hot Galley deck was in disrepair with some broken tiles and missing grouting. At least 10 self-service plates placed next to the Buffet-Omelet Station were soiled with food residues.

After Carnival Vista fail to pass USPH inspection Miami Herald released a statement by Carnival spokeswoman Jennifer De La Cruz saying “We take these inspections very seriously and share lessons learned and best practices with every ship in our fleet.” I guess there’s a lot more to be done to get the Carnival vessels in shipshape.

The cruise ship Island Princess arrived today at its home port Fort Lauderdale, Florida with 78 people stricken with norovirus symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea. According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the code red was implemented when 3.26% of the total passengers onboard were affected and 0.78% of the crew personnel. A CDC environmental health officer and one epidemiologist boarded the Princess cruise ship in Fort Lauderdale in order to conduct an environmental health assessment and evaluate the outbreak aboard. This is the first cruise ship in 2018, arriving in the United States port, to be affected by norovirus.

Following the Vessel Sanitation Program, Island Princess crew has implemented the necessary procedures to try to contain the spread of the virus. Affected passengers were isolated in their cabins and are being treated on board by the ship’s doctors with over-the-counter medication

Island Princess departed Los Angeles on January 9, for a 15 Nights Panama Canal - Ocean to Ocean cruise with final destination Fort Lauderdale.

Norwegian Escape Crew Member Arrested for Smuggling Cocaine

A 25-year-old crew member was arrested in Falmouth, Jamaica, after police authorities conducted security checks at the pier on passengers and crew returning to the cruise ship on January 15. The arrested man is identified as Akim Loctor, from Castries, St. Lucia, who was working as a dishwasher on Norwegian Escape, reports Jamaica Observer. After searching the crew member, police found one pound of cocaine and arrested him on charges of possession of cocaine, dealing in cocaine, and making an try to export cocaine.

Jamaica Constabulary Force released the following statement “A St. Lucian man was arrested by the Police, following the seizure of one pound of cocaine, valued at JMD 625,000, at the Falmouth Pier in Trelawny. The man was in the process of boarding a cruise ship when the drug was found in his possession during security checks. Akim Loctor, 25, of an address in St. Lucia has been charged with Possession of Cocaine, Dealing in Cocaine and Attempting to Export Cocaine. He will appear before the Trelawny Parish Court on Tuesday, January 23.”

Each year crew members, especially people who work onboard as utility cleaners, are busted for smuggling drugs. They become an easy target for drug traffickers and are convinced by the “get rich fast” scheme.

In 2017 three Norwegian Cruise Line employees were arrested in Belize for trafficking two kilos of cocaine which they smuggled into the cruise ship from Roatan, Honduras. They were identified as Derson Frank, Renaldo Kerron Roberts, from St. Vincent citizens and Jamal Nathus Celise from St. Lucia.

In 2016 three Norwegian Dawn crew members were arrested at New Orleans Riverwalk shopping mall for smuggling 4.75 kilograms of cocaine. Two crew members identified as Asbert Lowmans and Jean Louis were arrested in the restroom carrying a shoulder bag with six packs of cocaine. The third crew member identified as Esias Felicien, left the restroom before the bust and was arrested shortly after.

In 2015 five NCL crew members working as utility stewards on Norwegian Sun were arrested in Tampa, Florida. The crew later admitted to the police that they had picked up the cocaine in Roatan, Honduras and smuggled the drugs aboard the ship in their Spandex underwear.

After an exceptional record-setting year Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. has decided to reward each of their shoreside and onboard employees with a share of the profit. Some 66,000 employees will be financially rewarded with a total amount of $80 million.

The decision was made after RCL announced it had achieved its three-year Double-Double goal of doubling earnings per share and recording a double-digit return on invested capital. The company today told employees they will be thanked for their contribution with individual salary bonuses of five percent. RCL net revenue rose 10 percent in the quarter to $2 billion, beating the projected average estimate of $1.97 billion.

"Exceptional results require exceptional effort," said Richard D. Fain, RCL's chairman and CEO. "Reaching the Double-Double required remarkable focus and discipline from our employees, and they delivered," Fain said the Bonus had the added benefit of enabling each employee to see the Royal Caribbean as shareholders do. “We want to thank every one of our people for the hard work that got us to today's announcement, and give them a stake in our success going forward."

Employees will receive bonuses equal to five percent of their 2017 salaries in an $80 million program. The awards will go to all employees – shipboard and shoreside, full-time and part-time, domestic and overseas. Corporate officers, are excluded from this program. In addition, the company will contribute to the Crew Welfare Fund for upgrades to crew recreational and living and areas.

Cartoon Network Enters The Cruise Market

Turner, the global media giant behind Cartoon Network is entering the cruise market together with Oceanic Group. The news was made public yesterday, with the announcement of the first fully themed cruise ship named “Cartoon Network Wave”. There are many Turner projects around the world with restaurants, theme parks, water parks, and airplanes, however, this will be the first time an entire cruise ship in the Cartoon Network style will set sail. The concept of the ship is inspired by Cartoon Network heroes such as Adventure Time, Ben 10, the Power Puff Girls and We Are Bears.

The cruise ship Cartoon Network Wave will enter service by the end of 2018, and set sail from Singapore as a home port. From Singapore, the CN Wave will sail to the most popular destinations in the Asia-Pacific region - such as Malaysia, Thailand, China, Taiwan, South Korea, and Australia. With a capacity of 2,000 passengers and 800 fully-themed cabins, the family-oriented cruise ship will offer the world's first toons holiday and allow the big and small fans to travel with their Cartoon Network favorite stars.
Daniel Chui, CEO of the Oceanic Group, emphasized that the partnership with Turner is a commitment to capitalizing on the rapidly expanding Asian cruise market. "A network cruise project, such as the Cartoon Network Wave, heralds the dawn of a new holiday experience for cruise passengers in Asia, where cruises travel on personalized journeys through storytelling stories. Given Singapore's position as a hub in Asia, we believe that it is only appropriate that we plunge directly into the tidal wave of this passenger cruise. "

Ricky Ow, the President of Turner Asia Pacific said the Cartoon Network characters finally found their new home on a fantastic cruise ship. Last year was exceptional for Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd. Revenues reached a record figure of 8.78 billion dollars (+ 3.3%), while the operating profit was 1.7 billions of dollars (+ 18.1%) and net profit 1.62 billion dollars (26.6%). This is the best performance for the cruise colossus that manages the Royal Caribbean International, Celebrity Cruises, Azamara Club Cruises, Tui Cruises and SkySea Cruise Line joint ventures. The results reflect the golden moment of the cruise industry on a global level with the demand that continues its rise in almost all markets. With 42 cruise ships, Royal Caribbean Ltd. hosted almost 5.8 million passengers in 2017 (+ 0.2% compared to 2016), while cruise days per passenger were around 40 million with a decrease of 0.5%. To share their profits the company decided to reward their 66,000 employees with a total amount of $80 million in a form of a bonus program named Thank You, Thank You Bonus.

Who will receive the Thank You, Thank You Bonus?

An informative leaflet was distributed among the crew members and shoreside employees signed by Larry Pimentel, President and CEO of Azamara Club Cruises; Lisa Lutoff-Perlo, president and CEO of Celebrity Cruises; Michael Bayley. President and of Royal Caribbean International, and Richard D. Fain, Chairman & CEO, Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd, explaining how the bonus will be distributed among the crew members. This means that not only Royal Caribbean Cruises crew members will receive this bonus, but also the crew working for Celebrity Cruises and Azamara Club Cruises.

The value of the award will be 5% of your salary as of December 31, 2017. For shipboard employees, this includes overtime and gratuities paid thru the payroll system. It does not include overtime for shoreside employees.

Awards are prorated depending on your service during the Double-Double period of 2015, 2016, 2017. For example, if you joined half-way through, you will receive half the Thank You, Thank You Bonus.

How the Thank You, Thank You Bonus will be distributed?

The management decided to distribute the Bonus in the form of a "Stock Unit Award." It might have been simpler to just give hand out cash. However, the management thinks there's value in having you see the company as a shareholder - this way, you will benefit from the company's success. Also, RCI wants to give everyone an incentive to stay with the cruise line.

When will the Bonus distribution star?

The award will vest over three years starting December 15, 2018, provided you continue working with Royal Caribbean. The value of the stock award will hopefully rise over the next three years as our success continues. Meaning that you need to be part of the company in the next three years in order to receive the full bonus award. This program is in addition to your normal, agreed upon compensation. The Thank You, Thank You Bonus does not replace or impact any other salary or bonus you would otherwise receive.

All employees will receive an email containing more details about the program and what the Thank You, Thank You Bonus means for you personally. Questions? After that personal email is circulated, you may send questions to the HQ and the staff will try to answer your questions within two business days.

Инаку мене најинтересно ми беше, во разговор со колега фотограф од Србија кој цела кариера беше на Ројал бродови ме праша еднаш дали е вистина дека дечко кој бил Шиљо бил србин и му кажал на некое детенце американче нешто у врска со мајка му.
Веднаш му кажав дека критериумите за влез у карактер тим се такви што такво нешто никогаш не би се случило. Ама Срби ко Срби, какви лаги шират по бродовите и на копно... секој ден се запрепастувам.

Нуркачи, аква каст и сл ниту постои на Карнивал, има нешто како парада на Др.Сеус низ бродовите, појадок итн меѓутоа тоа е исклучиво со персонал од камп Карнивал или камп оушн сеа(youth staff), се друго како шоу се прави со ентертаинмент, во чиј склоп влегуаваат и спорт стаф, па по птреба и во зависност од тајмингот се вклучува и др персонал.

Убаво, гледав и нешто друго шо излезе во корелација со видеото шо го постираше, нема споредба.

Carnival Vista (Barely) Passes USPH Sanitation Re-Inspection

After miserably failing the December 2, 2017 sanitation inspection by the United States Public Health (USPH) last month, the USPH re-inspected the Carnival Vista today at the port of Miami. The Carnival cruise ship passed the re-inspection with a score of only 88, three points above the failing score of 85.

The December 2nd sanitation inspection found that Carnival Vista crew members were caught hiding perishable food and galley equipment in crew quarters. The report stated that "an organized effort was made to physically move several containers and trolleys of food equipment, utensils, spices, potentially hazardous food items, raw produce, and decorations to a crew cabin hallway and a crew cabin in order to avoid inspection by VSP staff."

Last month, the USPH sanitation inspection resulted in a failing score of only 79.

The USPH concluded that crew members moved trolleys filled with lexan boxes of perishable food and galley equipment in order to hire the items from the inspectors. Included on the trolleys were lexan boxes filled with butter, buttermilk, whipping cream, raw salmon, raw lamb and other meats. Inspectors discovered a skillet of lasagna near a crew member bed. Mixed with this food in the lexan boxes were galley machine equipment and batteries, among other items. Flies were found in some food containers.

In addition, the inspectors found incomplete and/or inaccurate acute gastrointeritis logs, soiled lexan boxes and galley equipment, incorrect time control labels, and raw meat and fish contaminating salad items.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) delayed from December 2, 2017 until January 16, 2018 - a period of six weeks - before publishing the failed score and disclosing the intentional misconduct by Carnival to the public.

The re-inspection score toad of only 88 is one of the lowest scores, without failing, of a ship operated by a major cruise line in the past year. Unfortunately, the CDC does not have the leadership to punish Carnival for its deliberate wrongdoing, such as ordering the Vista cruise ship not to sail.

The re-inspection today found more unsanitary conditions, to be officially disclosed by the CDC to the public at some time in the future.

The Vista is one of four Carnival cruise ships to have failed the inspection by the Vessel Sanitation Program (VSP) in the last four months, including the Carnival Breeze (77), Carnival Triumph (78), and the Carnival Liberty (80). The Carnival Paradise (83) also failed the VSP inspection last year.

A crew member who wishes to remain anonymous sent us the draft report today.

Unfortunately, the CDC does not have the leadership to punish Carnival for its deliberate wrongdoing, such as ordering the Vista cruise ship not to sail.
