Report: Liverpool takeover talks loom over Christmas
Dec 23, 2009 10:25:22 AM
According to sources in Saudi Arabia, Prince Faisal bin Fahd bin Abdullah is travelling to England in order to watch Liverpool take on Wolverhampton Wanderers on Boxing Day.
He will be a guest of current club co-owner George Gillett, who is allegedly looking to sell the Anfield-based outfit over the festive period.
The Daily Mail claim that the Saudi investor, who owns Sports Investment company F6, has a "serious intent" in purchasing the club who are in danger of slipping out of their position as an established top four Premier League contender on the back of a distinctly under-par start to the current season.
Gillett, according to The Mail, is willing to sell his 50 per cent stake in the club, and is courting would-be buyers.
Co-owner Tom Hicks, it is understood, would no longer block the sale.
The Saudi billionaire was a guest of Gillett's in September, when reports that a £200 million deal was in the offing conflicted with other stories suggesting that Gillett was keen on Prince Faisal expanding Liverpool's interests in the Middle East.

Liverpool Resume Pursuit Of Aston Villa's Emile Heskey - Report
Dec 23, 2009 1:22:33 AM
It is being widely reported in the English media that Liverpool are once again in the hunt for Emile Heskey, the Aston Villa and England striker.
The former Red has been linked on and off with a return to Anfield over the past 12 months, and The Mirror claims that Rafael Benitez is eager to bring him in this winter as an alternative - or partner - to Fernando Torres.
However, 'El Nino' himself recently outlined the problems the Merseyside outfit face in snaring the right players, the chief concern at the moment being finances.
While the board has backed Benitez in the midst what is fast becoming a horror campaign, The Times reports that the Spanish tactician must sell before he can buy.
Ryan Babel, Andriy Voronin, Andrea Dossena and Philipp Degen are all understood to be hovering near the exit door, all four having failed to make their mark in the Premier League so far.
Bayern Munich's Luca Toni and Real Madrid's Ruud van Nistelrooy are also reported to be on Liverpool's radar.
