Jon Worsnop signs for Alfreton Town
FC United goalkeeper Jon Worsnop has left the club after signing for Conference Premier side Alfreton Town.
His move comes after he joined Alfreton as emergency cover last Saturday for their game at Kidderminster Harriers after the Derbyshire side’s regular goalkeeper was injured. Subsequently, Jon was offered a deal at Alfreton which he has accepted this week.
Commenting on the move, FC United Karl Marginson said: "It’s disappointing to lose a player of Jon’s calibre but I wish him all the best as he steps up to take the opportunity of playing at a higher level of the game in the Conference Premier. He has previously been loyal to FC United, playing over the past two seasons for us on a non-contract basis and memorably stepped into the breech when James Spencer was injured just before our play-off final against Bradford Park Avenue in 2012. It’s always difficult to keep two great keepers like Jon and James happy but both have understood the situation when they have had runs in the side.
"James’s injury last Saturday during the Fylde game means that we need to find cover for the festive period but we’re lining up a loan signing from a Football League side so we’ll be ok for the games over Christmas. We have a history of striker come goalkeepers but despite his heroics last week, Mike ‘The Cat’ Norton won’t be needing to don the gloves against Barwell tomorrow!"
