Albanian students burn the Greek flag
High-school students from the southern Albanian town of Saranda staged protests at which they tore apart and burnt the Greek flag.
The Albanian TV stations aired footages of yesterday's gathering, when enraged high-school students protested against the inscription "Himara is Greek" that appeared on a wall of the Saranda high school building.
According to the media, the students chanted slogans like "Himara is Albanian".:helou: :smir:
The students said they planned to hold new protests in the Saranda's nearby town of Himara.
In related news, Beqir Meta in an interview for Albanian Vision Plus TV, talked about Macedonia and the latest developments between Greece and Albania.
"In name dispute with Greece, Macedonia is fully entitled to protect its name," said Beqir Meta, the Director of National Historical Institute of Albania.
Meta told Vision Plus TV that Macedonia has the right to safeguard its name because of its identity, adding "by defending the name, Macedonia has no territorial claims toward Greece".
Meta holds Greece responsible for recent events in southern Albania. He sees the incidents and demands for autonomy of Greeks in Albania, led by Himara mayor, as provocative acts by Greece.
Meta hailed the demands by political parties in Albania for accountability of Himara Mayor Vasil Bollano due to his provocation.
