Sound: Great. The grunge and rock effects really show on this album. The band's use of instruments does too. I mean, you can hardly hear the bass player in most bands. Which is a pity, because the bass keeps the lower notes and fatter chords balanced. // 9
Lyrics: The lyrics are insane. Some of the most clever I have ever heard. Gavin Rossdale is a lyrical genius. They'll be singing about getting their brains torn out, alchohol to colors and exes. Gavin Rossdale's vocals also help the album along with its success. His strong British voice leads the way with most of the songs. He probably sings the best on this album than any other one. Even though I enjoyed Razorblade Suitcase just the same. // 10
Impression: I loved this album. I thought this one and Razorblade Suitcase were the best ones in their career. It was better than "The Science of Things" and it had just a little bit better impression than "Golden State". The best songs on this album are "Everything Zen" obviously. "Glycerine" which is fantastic. "Machine Head," "X-Girlfriend," "Monkey On The Trail" and "Little Things." All these songs blew me away, especially "Glycerine". I love almost everything about this CD. The only thing bad is that "X-Girlfriend" is a forty five second song with only one lyric that repeats about one hundred times. This CD is pretty cheap, you could find it basically anywhere. Used copies can be scratched. But it doesn't really disable the CD much. If you're a real grunge or rock fan. Buy it. // 9
Sound: The sound is very good, nice crunchy guitar that isn't too hard to play. There is a lot of moving chords and riffs that make this album very seductive. The sound isn't the same stuff over and over, it has 2 or 3 songs that are simulair but in general it has a variety of musical components. Great! // 10
Lyrics: The lyrics are great on this album, truly great. The music and lyrics go together very well and nothing really seems out of place. 1 or 2 songs have a little toss to the lyrics and music. For the majority it is a very good lyrical album, very deep stuff and very good. Gavin Rossdale's voice would be velvet if I could describe it. Very sexy and very easing to listen to. // 10
Impression: This album blew up and sold 7 million copies in the US. It had 5 singles and 3 of the 5 singles made the top 40: Everything Zen, Glycerine, Comedown. I think everyone should buy this album it is one of a kind! // 10
Sound: The music is excellent. There's a lot of cool, catchy guitar riffs and solos on this album, which solidify it as a real rock record. // 10
Lyrics: The lyrics are pretty cool. They go pretty well with the music. In some songs, there's parts where it just consists of pointless screaming, but Gavin Rossdale is still an incredible singer/guitarist/songwriter. // 10
Impression: The best songs on the album are Comedown, Alien, Glycerine, and Everything Zen. I think the record would have been better off without X-Girlfriend because it is only about a minute long and consists of only seven words, "You only call me when you're down", which are repeated throughout the song. This is only a very tiny fault, though. Not quite big enough to stop me from giving the album an overall 5. I'd definitely get it again if lost or stolen. // 10
