Player Ratings: Zurich 2-5 Real Madrid
REAL MADRID
Iker Casillas - 6: Did not have too much to do, but was still beaten twice. Won't be too happy with the referee's decision to book him and award Zurich a spot kick.
Alvaro Arbeloa - 6: Was one of Real's worst players on the pitch. Not really troubled at the back, but was hardly involved going forward. Could have done more to help his forwards.
Raul Albiol - 7: Fairly composed performance, although his marking did stray from time to time.
Pepe - 6.5: Was decent in defence, but was not really tested upon due to Zurich's weak attack.
Royston Drenthe - 7.5: As usual, was a menace attacking down the left flank. Additionally, Drenthe was solid in his defensive duties as well, despite facing Zurich's star player.
Xabi Alonso - 7: A hugely influential performance, stopping the play and distributing the ball easily. Zurich got back in the game after he left the pitch due to injury.
Lass - 6: The Frenchman was not in his best form in Switzerland and was deservedly booked after the break. Lass will not be satisfied with his performance.
Cristiano Ronaldo - 7.5: An impressive performance before the break, but Ronaldo faded away in the second half. Fired home two free kicks, but will have every reason to thank Leoni for that.
Kaka - 7: The playmaker was, like Ronaldo, a serious threat for the Zurich defence before the break. He was less impressive after the break, but still set up Guti for the 5-2 with a great pass.
Gonzalo Higuain - 7: Higuain was invisible for large parts of the game, but played a crucial role is his side's win. Set up Raul for Madrid's second and scored himself in the dying seconds of the first half.
Raul - 6,5: Not his best game, but was full of running and knew when to hold the ball up. Will be happy with yet another Champions League goal after 33 minutes of play.
Substitutes
Guti - 7: Cut a frustrated figure until the final seconds, when he executed a typically cool finish.
Gago - 6: Not the impact on the game he was hoping for, as the game slipped away for Real after his entrance. Almost added his name to the score sheet with a placed shot.
