Korab and Pelister in the first part of May

Hello,
I plan to go to Macedonian mountain in the first part of May and I have some questions.
1. Is there a lot of snow on Korab and Pelister (Baba Mountain) in the first part of May?
2. What is the temperature at this time as a usual?
3. Do I still need a permit for climbing on Korab? If yes where I can get it?
4. Can I sleep in my tent in Macedonian mountain or in refuge (mountain house) only?
5. Can I cook on gas burner or not?

1. There is. It depends on how much snow will fall during the winter and how warm the spring is. During this period the snow begins to melt, but on altitudes higher than 2000m there is still a good amount of snow.
2. Not sure about this.
3. You do need a permit and you can get it at the Strezimir police station, which is the starting point for the tour.
4. There are no refuge huts on Korab, so for a longer stay you need a tent. There is a mountain hut Kopanki on Pelister.
5. Not sure about the regulations, but I think that there's no problem for using it.

This shot was made in the middle of june last year, the waterfall is very close to the peak, but it can be only be approached from another route (not from Strezimir). You will need snow crampons and winter equipment.

Just one more thing, an update for the mountain hut Kopanki, it caught serious fire this autumn and it's out of use (until it's renovated soon I hope), so don't count on it....but climbing Pelister is a one-day trip and I guess it wouldn't be a problem.

Regarding Pelister, Kopanki is out of order and useless at the moment. But you can count on the hotel Molika and the mountain house at Big Lake (Golemo Ezero).Second one is not working full time and you'll have to ensure yourself someone will be there.
Anyway i have met enough people opening tents up there (in summer).
Ah, and yes legally it is strictly forbidden to light a fire up there.

I know hotel Molika but I stayed in villa Dihovo (it's not far from) and I'm very satisfied. I can recommend this villa. Very good service and well-wishing owner. As I know he was known Macedonian football player.

Yeah, that kind of accommodation is available as well and depending on planed route might be better. For example if you intend to drive.
I was talking exactly about that house from the picture (still better than tent ;) ).

Following is Nature Preservation Law (Macedonian, try google translate) check 75.1,

Formally, the law talks about making fireplace. The idea is to protect the mountain from non regulated fire. During summer there can be problems with this due to high temperatures and irresponsible people.

Cheap, If i remember well, it used to be 200 MKD (< 3.5EUR).

I understood, it’s need because very hot in summer and fire is very dangerous.
