I am very sorry that he received threats, but as a club there's not a lot that we can do about that sadly. We always told him that we hoped/wanted that he stayed at milan. If he should rethink his decision, we would welcome him with open arms and I think the fans would too.

What about the threat to send him to the stands for a season?

There was no such threat. I have no problem if he plays the whole season. It's up to Montella to decide, week after week, who plays in that position. We can't risk anything, we have to look for other keepers. We can't have a player with an expiring contract, that might think about Real Madrid, especially in such a delicate position. I have to be sure to have a good and fit goalkeeper.

But the choice was legit.

Nobody ever doubted the legitimacy of the choice. But one thing is the legitimacy and an other thing is the ethic point of view. The bitterness comes from the way this was handled.
