What These Videos Usually Claim
Many “dark psychology” videos on YouTube argue things like:
- People can hack your psyche using secret steps to influence or control you.
- Manipulation is a step-by-step process that can reliably shape anyone’s thoughts.
- There are hidden tactics that most people don’t know but you can learn.
The thumbnail for this niche typically uses:
- a dramatic or shadowy image
- bold text about “control,” “secrets,” or “mind hacks”
to make the content seem urgent and scientific (these are visual persuasion tactics).
❌ Why These Claims Are Not Correct (and Often Misleading)
1)
They exaggerate what manipulation actually is
Real manipulation, in psychology, is simply one form of social influence — it’s not a guaranteed, step-by-step mind “hack.”
- Influence can occur, but it depends on context, relationships, and individual awareness — not secret steps.
- Tactics like persuasion, suggestion, or negotiation can shape choices, but they do not enable control over another adult’s thoughts or will.
Why this matters:
If binge-watching a video could reliably change someone’s mind, advertising, politics, and sales would always work perfectly — but they don’t.
What
Real Psychology
Says
✔ Social influence exists — e.g., persuasion, norms, modeling, suggestion.
✔ Manipulative behavior occurs — people can attempt to push others.
❌ But there are no secret steps to control minds.
❌ No independent field called “dark psychology” with validated methods exists.
