The Eurosport Group has acquired the exclusive live rights for the Bundesliga, Germany’s top-tier domestic football league from the DFL Sports Enterprises GmbH.
The deal, which runs for three years from 2009 to 2012, covers 22 countries across Nordic and Eastern European regions: Denmark, Finland, Norway, Sweden, Iceland, Poland, Hungary, Romania, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Slovenia, Serbia, Kosovo, Albania, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Macedonia, Montenegro, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania and also includes the exclusive rights for the 2.Bundesliga, the second tier of German football.
Under the plans, Eurosport will show comprehensive coverage of up to four live matches per week and a weekly highlights programme on its channel Eurosport 2 in all 22 countries. In addition in the five Nordic countries, Eurosport will also show additional coverage of a 52-minute weekly preview programme and a selection of up to 10 live matches per season. The deal also includes acquired all new media broadcast rights, which will be exploited through a range of live and VOD matches, offered on a pay-per-view basis.
