Almunia – 8: Don’t let the one-sided scoreline fool you – Almunia was rock solid at the back, helping his defence for the supposed lack of height by coming out at the right time for so many crosses, it seemed nothing was getting past him today. Made some good saves and was not at fault for Saha’s goal.
Sagna – 6: Gave the ball away casually at times but supplied Bendtner and Fabregas well with passes. Contained the rather hopeless Jo more than easily.
Gallas – 7: A good goal for the ex-captain and his partnership with Vermaelen has promise. The backline seemed stretched at times, though. But he got his tackles in and that’s all you can ask for.
Vermaelen – 7.5: A solid debut with a goal to boot. His aerial ability looks very appetising but was caught napping a bit when Fellaini headed for goal off a corner. Folks at the pub could not stop mentioning what a mean bastard he looked and his Vidic-like appearance.
Clichy – 6.5: Similarly to Sagna, had a quietish game, but had Cahill in his pocket for most of the game.
Bendtner – 8: Dribbled with menace, had an eye for a pass and generally looked dangerous every time he had the ball. The #52 seems to have a magical quality about it.
Fabregas 9: The two goals were outstanding, but one thing not mentioned yet is the amount of defensive work Fabregas put into his shift, yesterday. Looked absolutely dedicated to helping out the backline in any way and yet it still didn’t stop him from getting in the right positions to string things together. Superb.
Denilson – 8: A lovely showing from the Brazillian who kept the tempo ticking over. Absolutely smashing goal.
Song – 9: A tiger in midfield. Tackled with genuine authority and you could see a lot of Everton players had had enough of him by half time. Tremendous effort, but will need competition from a new signing as well as cover for when he heads for the African Cup of Nations.
van Persie – 7: Hit some good free kicks and hit a wonderful pass for the fourth goal. No goals for him today, but he can be happy with this shift.
Arshavin – 6.5: A very quiet game by this kid’s astronomical standards. Gets bums off seats everytime he’s on the ball, but a lot of things didn’t quite come off for him today. Nearly had a goal at the end which Eduardo converted instead.
Subs: Ramsey – 6: Came on for Fabregas and passed the ball around well. Looked menacing outside the box but didn’t have the most scope to impress.
Eboue – 6.5: Did well on the left wing of all places and even got a few step-overs in to torment a shattered Everton. Takes an okay corner, as well.
Eduardo – 7: Lovely to see him back and got himself about the pitch very quickly. Fed in Arshavin for his toe poke before somehow rounding the box to finish that very move. I don’t know a guy who doesn’t love him.
