TWO FRENCH TOURISTS KILLED IN HOT AIR BALLOON COLLISION: REPORT

NOUAKCHOTT, Dec 14, 2007 (AFP) - Two French tourists were killed and four seriously injured Thursday in Mauritania when the hot air balloons they were travelling in crashed, the official AMI news agency reported.

The French tourists were part of a group of 12 people travelling in two hot air balloons in the mountainous region around Atar, 400 kilometers (250 miles) northeast of the capital Nouakchott, when a strong sandstorm damaged their balloons, causing them to plummet, the agency reported.

After receiving emergency treatment in Atar, the injured were transported to the capital, it added.
