Naomi Campbell's role in the handling of alleged blood diamonds was of such "magnitude" that she may struggle to get work with jewellery firms again, according to the head of the industry's trade organisation.

Sally Morrison, the director of the Diamond Information Center, said that even if Miss Campbell had no idea about the significance of the "dirty-looking pebbles" handed to her during a trip to South Africa, her association with gems potentially traded in conflict will be an issue for jewellers.
She said that no jeweller or diamond retailer would want to be associated with the trade in blood diamonds - or Charles Taylor, the former Liberian leader who allegedly gave Miss Campbell the diamonds and is currently on trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague for war crimes.
"Whatever controversy Naomi Campbell has had allegedly throwing a cell phone at an assistants' head or whatever have been 'misdemeanors'," she said.
"The allegations around Charles Taylor involve such abuse of human rights, cruelty, violence and elicit war, it's just another level, another magnitude.
"It might not be her fault, she might not have done anything wrong it might only be by association but working with her would be a step backward for the industry that has worked so hard to address the issue of conflict diamonds."
Miss Campbell has previously modelled diamonds for jeweller David Yurman, Cypriot brand Metaxas and and Graff Diamonds and wore Swiss billionaire Robert Mouawad's $50million, 60-carat flawless Mondera Diamond at the 2002 London Fashion Week.
The model, who could face charges for possessing "illegal" uncut diamonds which she later handed over to the head of one of former South African leader Nelson Mandela's charities, said she had "nothing to gain" from lying during her evidence to the war crimes trial of Charles Taylor, the former Liberian leader.
