Vietnam commits to serve as bridge to connect Macedonia, ASEAN: FM
HANOI, Nov. 12 — Vietnam is willing to serve as a bridge to connect Macedonia and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) markets, said Vietnamese Foreign Minister (FM) Pham Binh Minh.
Minh made the remarks at the meeting with his visiting Macedonian counterpart Nicola Poposki in capital Hanoi on Monday.
In its foreign policy of independence, self-reliance and multilateralism, Vietnam always attaches importance to strengthen cooperation with traditional friends, including Macedonia, Minh added.
Macedonian FM Nicola Poposki, for his part, spoke highly of achievements that Vietnam has gained in renovation process, affirming that Macedonia looks forward to expanding and strengthening friendly relation with Vietnam.
The two sides agreed to boost cooperation in fields of education and training and reached consensus on measures to further promote cooperation between the two countries, including accelerating the signing of agreement on economic cooperation, investment, as well as agreement on investment promotion and protection.
On the same day, Macedonian FM met with Vietnamese President Truong Tan Sang, during which the two sides confirmed to strengthen relations in the future.
Nicola Poposki is paying an official visit to Vietnam at the invitation of his Vietnamese counterpart Pham Binh Minh on Nov. 11- 13.
Vietnam and Macedonia established diplomatic ties at the ambassadorial level in 1994.
