VOLGOGRAD, March 25 (Itar-Tass) - The informal CIS summit will be held in Moscow on May 8, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at a session of the Victory organising committee on Thursday.
The leaders of other countries will arrive in the Russian capital on May 9, Medvedev said.
“
The Victory, which is the key event of the 20th century, is a uniting topic. Russia must organise a proper celebration of this holiday,” the head of state said.
“The CIS leaders will arrive in Moscow on May 8 to take part in the informal summit. We will expect the leaders of several other countries to come to Moscow on May 9. They wished to take part in the celebrations,” Medvedev said.
Presidential property manager Vladimir Kozhin said the leaders of Armenia, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Tajikistan, Ukraine, Latvia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, France, Germany, Vietnam and the Council of Europe had confirmed their participation in the May 9 celebrations. “We wait for the answers from the leadership of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Turkmenistan, Britain, Greece, Israel, Italy, Canada, Poland, the U.S., the Czech Republic, Estonia and China,” Kozhin said.

we will send invitations to the former leaders of nine countries who took a direct participation in the fight against Nazi Germany – the former general officer of Australia, the Albanian former president, the former Grand Duke of Luxembourg, the
first president of Macedonia, Polish General Wojciech Jaruzelski, ex-king Mihai of Romania, former U.S. President George Bush Sr., French former president Valery Jiscard d’Estaing and Croatian former president Stipe Mesic.”
“As of today we’ve received four positive answers. The rest should reply in the nearest time,” Kozhin said.
