I am delighted to announce very exciting and long-awaited news regarding United Macedonian Diaspora (UMD)! As of Monday, July 13th, UMD's President Metodija A. Koloski, will serve UMD on a full-time basis at UMD's Headquarters in Washington, D.C.
This is an historic moment for the entire Macedonian Diaspora because it is the first time that a Macedonian émigré organization will have full-time day-to-day professional representation in Washington, D.C. This monumental occasion could not have occurred without the hard work of UMD's volunteers over the last 5 years, and the continued support of UMD's members and donors like you. We thank you for your support, patience, and trust.
In just 5 years, UMD has grown to become one of the largest and most active Macedonian émigré organizations in the world. Following the success of the 1st Annual UMD Global Conference, UMD's Board of Directors decided that there is a need for a full-time representative to ensure successful execution of upcoming UMD projects. With Mr. Koloski, UMD will continue establishing itself as a respected, professional and sustainable émigré organization and will continue its efforts to develop and foster a resilient, educated, and prosperous Macedonian Diaspora.
Through its work, UMD fosters social values, promotes unity, and develops partnerships. Mr. Koloski will oversee UMD's day-to-day operations, educational, and charitable efforts, membership programs and long-term development. Mr. Koloski will also focus on strengthening ties amongst Macedonian communities throughout the world and fostering UMD's relationships and communications with non-governmental, charitable, academic and governmental institutions. He will focus on increasing UMD membership and funding through grants, donations, and events. There is much more that Mr. Koloski will be working on, as long hours dedicated to the Macedonian cause await him, however, I just wanted to highlight several of the key responsibilities that he will be engaged in, as of this Monday.
On behalf of the UMD Board of Directors, which will continue to work voluntarily, I am delighted that Mr. Koloski accepted this position, because his professional experience paired with his long-time involvement in the Macedonian communities makes him the perfect candidate to ensure UMD's continued growth and advancement of the Macedonian cause in the 21st Century. Mr. Koloski will remain on the UMD Board of Directors as a non-voting member; I will assume the role of Chairman of the Board of Directors for a period of one year.
