А judicial official said on Wednesday that a French company is taking Google Maps to court for unfair competition, looking for $706,000 in damages from the Internet search giant.
Bottin Cartographes, the company with the complaint, is filing the suit at the Paris commercial court against Google France, along with Google Inc., for providing free web mapping services to businesses.
The company said that they provide the same services for a fee and claims that Google's strategy is to undercut competition by temporarily swallowing the full cost until it gains control of the market.
"Google is ruining the market," said lawyer Jean-David Scemama, representing Bottin Cartographes, based in Suresnes, outside Paris.
"Their strategy is to capture the market and squeeze out the competition by creating a monopoly for itself," he said.
According to Scemama, Google offers the map services to some companies for their internal use with the understanding that it would provide advertising on this site.
Google declined to comment on the case, which is set to begin on October 16
