Let him point his Wand to the Centre of the Pentagram, and cry THERION!
Let him give the sign called Vir, the feet being together. The hands, with clenched fingers and thumbs thrust out forwards, are held to the temples; the head is then bowed and pushed out, as if to symbolize the butting of an horned beast (attitude of Pan, Bacchus, etc.). (Frontispiece, Equinox I(3)).

Crowley tried to explain this in court when he testified in a 1934 lawsuit. He was asked,
"Did you take to yourself the designation of 'the Beast 666'?"

"Do you call yourself the 'Master Therion'?"

"Great wild beast."
"Do these titles convey a fair impression of your practice and outlook on life?"
