Venezuela moves pacts forward with Shell, including Loran gas field​

CARACAS, June 11 (Reuters) - Venezuela signed five agreements with ‌British oil major Shell (SHEL.L), opens new tab on Thursday to advance oil and gas projects, including the company's participation in the coveted 7-trillion-cubic-feet Loran offshore gas field, the government said.
The country had signed preliminary agreements for these and other projects earlier this year with Shell, one of the few large foreign companies that has taken early advantage of ⁠Venezuela's new energy investment opportunities following the U.S. capture of President Nicolas Maduro in January.
This time, the parties secured Shell's participation in Loran, a reservoir that extends into Trinidad and Tobago's waters. They also agreed to a technical alliance greenlighting procurement and output expansion at oilfields in Monagas North and to a separate pact to buy equipment and parts to reduce gas flaring.
Loran and another Venezuelan gas project involving Shell, the 4.2-TCF Dragon, are expected to allow the South American nation to inaugurate exports of offshore gas, of which it ‌has abundant ⁠reserves to develop, starting with supplies to Trinidad for processing into liquefied natural gas.
The pacts move Shell, which had withdrawn from projects and closed offices in Venezuela, to the top of state company PDVSA's list of partners for key energy developments.
"We are taking a historic step by signing ⁠this license for phase one of the Loran field's development plan," interim President Delcy Rodriguez said at the signing ceremony, broadcast on state TV.
Oil from the fields to be produced by Shell will ⁠increase the availability of diluents for producing the country's flagship exportable Merey crude and supplying it to domestic refineries, the government said in the release.

Venezuela, GE Vernova sign cooperation agreement on power supply​

Venezuela's government and electricity supply company GE Vernova signed a memorandum of understanding, Venezuelan state TV showed on Monday.Interim ⁠President Delcy Rodriguez said she had asked her teams to formalize the contract as soon as possible to begin work that should make available 1 gigawatt of energy within its first 24 months and more than ‌5 ⁠gigawatts over four years.
"This is a historic step for Venezuela, enabling us to restore a service as essential to ⁠the life of a country as its electricity supply," she said in an announcement, ⁠speaking alongside the head of GE Vernova's power segment, Eric ⁠Gray.
Rodriguez did not say how much would be spent on the deal.

Venezuela's PDVSA and Repsol sign deal for oil and gas production​

June 16 (Reuters) - Venezuela's state oil company PDVSA and Spanish ‌energy group Repsol (REP.MC), opens new tab have signed a crude and gas agreement to boost output in northwestern Venezuela, authorities said on ⁠Tuesday.
PDVSA President Hector Obregon said at an event at the government palace the deal offers "exploration opportunities" on the eastern shore of Lake Maracaibo, where the two firms already operate the Petroquiriquire joint ‌venture, ⁠which could add about 20,000 barrels per day of light crude to current average output of ⁠around 40,000 bpd.The additional crude would supply the Paraguana Refining Center in ⁠Falcon state, helping fuel economic growth, he added, in ⁠comments broadcast on state television.

Death toll from Venezuela quakes rises to 3,342​

July 5 (Reuters) - The death toll from Venezuela's twin quakes has risen to 3,342, ‌according to numbers released by the Venezuelan information ministry on Sunday.
The new tally also puts the number of ⁠injured at 16,470 while the number of homeless has risen to 17,345.Earlier in the day, in a speech commemorating Venezuela's 215th independence day, interim President Delcy Rodriguez defended ‌the ⁠government's actions following the quakes amid growing frustration over what many have called a delayed and ⁠inadequate response to the disaster. Rodriguez said she deployed security forces immediately ⁠and announced the creation of a new military unit ⁠to help deal with emergencies and disasters.

Death toll from Venezuela earthquakes rises to 4,490​

CARACAS, July 12 (Reuters) - The death toll from the two ‌earthquakes that struck Venezuela on June 24 has risen to ⁠4,490, National Assembly President Jorge Rodriguez said on Sunday on his Telegram account.
The official count of injured ‌remained ⁠unchanged at 16,740, while 6,462 people have been rescued.
