An Australian man who repeatedly pummelled his new wife, bit her face and tried to strangle her during the limousine ride to their wedding reception was jailed on Friday for at least 15 months.
Adnan Rusanovski, aged 30, savaged his bride, Ferdi, in the back of a Melbourne limo last May in an attack the driver described as "worse than a boxing match", leaving the 28-year-old bruised and bloodied.
Rusanovski punched his new wife in the face 27 times, bit her cheek and tried to throttle her in front of children as young as nine-years-old as they travelled to a party celebrating their earlier wedding in Macedonia.
His lawyers claimed Rusanovski had bipolar disorder - a diagnosis reluctantly accepted by the judge - and was struggling with the lifestyle changes that marriage would bring.
The Macedonian-Albanian drank heavily before the incident, telling his groomsman he "couldn't do this straight", according to the ABC.
The Victorian County Court jailed him for a maximum two and a half years, of which he must serve at least 15 months, condemning his "cowardly and very aggressive" conduct.
The couple are reportedly divorcing.
