Don't look too close at what radio free europe is saying as that's nothing more than a us funded mouthpiece, but whether this is a good thing or not for kyrgyzstan is up in the air.
Basically this whole coup is orchestrated by Almazbek Atambayev. You can look him up on Wikipedia. Of note, look at his stance towards moscow during his tenure, then compare it to Jeenbekov.
He was the one who brought Jeenbekov, the current, well, resigned president to power, likely as a puppet. But it seems the relationship has changed, because atambayev has been speaking out against the current regime, and for that, he was arrested.
What is interesting here are two things:
1. Atambayev visited moscow on a private jet in July 24th last year.
He was hosted and received by putin. At this point, Atambayev is no longer in power, so why putin hosted him is a mystery. What's even more interesting is shortly after that, Jeenbekov had him arrested on August 9th.
2. It's almost certain that atambayev was constantly in contact with russian politicians while under de facto arrest, and Jeenbekov made no attempt to push his trial until right before the election, in June of this year.
The whole picture of this protest being a victory for anti-russian elements is almost certainly false.
The whole thing smells of Moscow interference. It's no surprise that Jeenbekov, in his recent days, have been courting China and Turkey, and also galvanizing islamic elements in the kyrgyzstan religious councils.
I have a feeling this coup was a long time coming and we are just seeing a transition from moderately pro russian seat to a strongly pro russian seat.
It's possible he is playing boy sides, or have accepted a sweetheart deal from the west, but like most politicians in the stans, he vast majority of his fortunes are stashed away in moscow. So little chance of that, I think.
Is there really an election fraud? Probably. Most likely. But this smells an awful lot like foreign intervention to me.
